A record 1260 swimmers and thousands of spectators welcomed in the New Year by attending the 2010 swim. This year the swim celebrated its 26th year and was better than ever as hundreds of swimmers embraced the event by dressing in fancy dress.

Prior to the swim itself, the swimmers and crowd were entertained by a mascot race which was won by Folly Farm’s Henry Horse, they were then warmed up by the Llanelli Scarlets Cheerleaders ‘The Red Kites’

The event was started by local celebrities zoo-owner Anna Ryder-Richardson and Casualty Actor Charles Dale upon the release of a giant firework. Ms Ryder-Richardson also lead the swimmers into the icy waters to the roar of the cheering crowd. Fancy dress highlights included the Simpsons (Stepaside Coachworks), the Jamaican bobsleigh team ‘Cool Runnings’, the characters from Little Britain, a group of butterflies with 6ft wide wings and Saundersfoot Junior School members dressed as book characters.

Saundersfoot Festivities Chairman Martyn Williams said, "Again we have exceeded expectation and have broken all records. Twenty six years on and this event is getting bigger and better with thousands of pounds being raised for charity. The people from Saundersfoot and surrounding areas have come out in force to support this marvellous event".
